City Park possesses an enticing mix of historic brick buildings, including elegant Victorians and charming Denver Squares, a local term used to describe the prevalent two-story brick homes. Many of City Park’s grander properties were built by Denver’s wealthiest and most prominent residents when the neighborhood first formed as a streetcar suburb in the early 19th Century. While the neighborhood’s character is primarily historic, there are numerous newer developments featuring luxury apartments and condominiums, including a large development on the site of the city’s old Mercy Hospital.
The median sales price in City Park was $574,655 over the past year, with the average price per square foot rising by 8% to $446.
PEOPLE & LIFESTYLE
City Park has an incredibly varied mix of natural, cultural, and commercial attractions, while maintaining a community spirit that is reflective of the neighborhood’s historic character. Today, hip restaurants, chic shopping, and an 18-hole golf course, all located within the vicinity of an expansive park, make this city a destination, while the glorious natural backdrop of the Rocky Mountains and Denver’s sleek modern skyline make it home.
The enormous City Park is Denver’s most iconic green space, containing within it the world-class cultural attraction of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and The Denver Zoo. There are a variety of sports facilities situated within the park, including areas for playing tennis, soccer, and baseball, along with picnic sites, playgrounds, lakes and historical monuments.
The gorgeous promenade of City Park Esplanade extends for a quarter-mile from the park to Colfax Avenue, with a beautiful fountain flanked by sculptures and greenery designed with the flair and precision of classical French landscaping techniques. The Esplanade hosts a popular farmer’s market each Sunday between June and October. The City Park Pavilion is another popular attraction, hosting a wide variety of live events and performances that include the much-anticipated annual City Park Jazz concert series.
The neighborhood has no shortage of lesser-known, yet no less endearing, attractions, such as the Shakespeare Elm in City Park. The tree, which bears a plaque, earned its name because it grew from a scion taken from an elm tree at the celebrated playwright’s gravesite in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
